Project Description

Why: The idea emerged from conversations with a range of people in the construction industry — from engineering managers and architects to builders on site. The team discovered that plans frequently shift, and project leaders often rely on historical context to make decisions. Existing workflows either involved very manual methods, like weekly photo-walks and spreadsheets, or expensive, high-end tools. While many workers were hesitant to adopt new technology, one common behavior stood out: sending progress photos via mobile phones. Some tradespeople even physically mark their work areas using colored tape or ribbons.

What: OnSight is a simple AR documentation tool for teams working on physical project sites. The mobile app lets teams create a shared memory in their workspace by adding images to the space itself, in AR. Ideal for sharing progress photos or adding context for quick reference, OnSight reduces the need to dig through paperwork, spreadsheets, or photo libraries to find what you need to know on the job

How: This revealed an opportunity to build a tool that sits between complex BIM systems and ad-hoc methods. OnSight makes images accessible exactly where and when they’re needed. It builds on existing habits: simply open the app, tap the screen, and a photo is both captured and pinned in space. Later, anyone on the team can open the app and view it in the same physical location.
